22 New Students in April, Two Months In

Karl Courage owns a martial arts school in San Diego. Two months after he started with us he recorded a video saying the school signed up 22 new students in April. He posted the same number publicly on Facebook, counting them in his children's program. Both are his own words, and you can watch him say it.

What he said, two months in

He recorded this himself. The link goes to the second he says it, so you can check it rather than take our word for it.

We've been using Neil at Madscope Marketing for the last two months. We've been having great results so far. In the month of April we signed up 22 new students.

What he wrote afterwards

He also left a public comment recommending us to another school owner. It adds the detail the video doesn't: where those students went.

We used Neil at Madscope .... excellent results. Signed up 22 new members in our Children's program in April. Recommend them highly.

What this page doesn't claim

He never broke the 22 down by where each family came from, so neither do we. The number is his, counted by him, in a month he was running with us.

Halfway through May he said on the same recording that they were on target to have another really great month. That was what he expected at the time, not a result, and we never published how May finished. A forecast is not a figure.

We don't publish what any school spends with the ad platforms, or what we ran for them. The part of our pricing that matters to you is the whole of it: we're paid when a student walks through your door.

Why a children's program produces a month like that

We don't publish any individual school's campaign, but we're happy to say how we think about this in general, because it's the same thinking for every school we take on. We mostly advertise kids' classes, for a simple reason: a child is brought through the door by an adult. Show rates are almost always higher when a parent has decided the family is going, and once that parent is standing in your lobby watching the class, you can make them an offer too. That is the cheapest adult student you will ever get. We've written about which age group your ads should target and the parents already in your lobby.

The other half of a month like April is not ours. It happens at the desk and on the mat, in the first ten minutes of the trial class and in the offer you make on day one.

Who does what

We find the families, get them booked and remind them to come. You welcome them, run a great first class, and enrol them. We didn't enrol those 22 students. Karl's school did. Our job was to put the families in front of him and make sure they turned up, and we're only paid when one of them does.

If you want the longer version of how the model works, read pay per lead versus pay per show, or what a first month with a marketing agency actually looks like.
